Hooks and Luxe began over a decade ago, when I started making simple gold-filled wire jewelry by hand in Queens, New York. I’ve always liked working with my hands and figuring out how to turn a simple idea into something tangible. From the beginning, I’ve enjoyed the small differences that come with making things by hand, and I’ve always wanted each piece to feel like it has a character of its own.

Over time, I became interested in working beyond wire and exploring other ways of shaping materials. This gradually led me to hand-cast forms and mineral-based materials. I make my own originals and molds, then hand-pour, sand, and finish each piece myself.

What I find especially interesting about casting is that I can control the basic form, but I can’t completely predict what will happen when the material is poured. The way it moves and settles can create subtle differences in color blending and pattern from one piece to another. Those differences are not something I try to eliminate. They are part of what makes each piece its own.

I think that is what keeps me interested in making: starting with a clear idea, but leaving some room for the material to have a say. Whether I’m making jewelry or small objects, I’m drawn to that point where careful design meets what the material decides on its own.
